New lens!

I bought a longer lens (used, of course). It's a 70-300mm zoom that can replace the 70-200mm zoom I've been using. I can zoom closer, but I'm not crazy about the sharpness of the images. Here's a comparison. The Columbus Zoo is closed, so I had to make do with a squirrel.

New lens at 300mm
I need a longer lens so I can see right into that squirrel's ear.

  1. Looks like the squirrel maintained pose between lens chage. A real pro

  2. Looks like you have to decide how much surroundings you want to include to decide which lens to use or which length to set it for. Keep sending the pics out for our "expert" opinions. :)

  3. Great tip! Because I'm most interested in the animal, I like to zoom in and include only the animal in the picture. I often leave out context and forget that including surroundings can make a picture more interesting. Of the two photos here, I think the top picture is more pleasing.
