Columbus June 26

Here are some shots from the same day as the cheetah run that I missed.

The cheetah. She didn't want to give up the lure.

Each of the African lion ladies had a bone.

I'm trying to figure out if reindeer have black skin or their undercoat is black. She's lying in front of a fan.

Wood thrush. It/they (I don't know how many there are in the aviary) sometimes land close to people.

A masked bobwhite calling. It's subspecies of bobwhite quail.

Melvin, a female domestic duck with a severe deformity or significant refraction

I wonder if the sand cats ever get to go outside. Whenever I visit in the same room in the Village.

This female African lion was looking at another one.

I got lucky. When I decided to press the button, the bee was on the flower. By the time the shutter fired, the honey bee was flying (and in focus!).

March 8

My visit to the Columbus Zoo March 8 included a surprise.

Banjo, a pronghorn, uses a branch on an itch.

The surprise was that Katy was awake.

Not only was she awake, but her joey was, too. She backed-up and we got a good look.

She turned around and headed toward a eucalyptus meal.

It's not the toy.

It's the box it came in.

The meerkat and puma were after food. Parrots seem to enjoy tearing things up.

The next time you yawn, see if you don't do the same thing. Eyes close, mouth opens, fangs show, head tilts back...
