Columbus June 26

Here are some shots from the same day as the cheetah run that I missed.

The cheetah. She didn't want to give up the lure.

Each of the African lion ladies had a bone.

I'm trying to figure out if reindeer have black skin or their undercoat is black. She's lying in front of a fan.

Wood thrush. It/they (I don't know how many there are in the aviary) sometimes land close to people.

I went to the Columbus Zoo twice in January, right after snows.

Snow goose. I was surprised to learn that some aren't white.

Reindeer. The Columbus Zoo has three, all female.

Anana and Aurora. I don't know which is which, but the one on the left was already asleep when I arrived. The other moseyed over, dug herself a comfy spot, and closed her eyes.

Red panda. This could be Kora, the mom; Kora spends a lot of time in a tree. I found that a camera's autofocus might not work well when it's snowing.

Minnisota Zoo - summer

I first visited the Minnesota Zoo last December. My second visit was in June. It was midday, and there was a whole lot of resting and sleeping going on.

Domesticated

Areas for children and adults who like to scratch goats seem to be popular in zoos. Columbus has My Barn, and the animals are domesticated.

Tallulah, a pygmy goat.

A Jacob sheep. Nice teeth!

A Dexter cow. I was too slow to get her tongue in the shot.

Her tongue is pretty long.

Sven isn't in the My Barn area, but the animal known as a reindeer in North America is a domesticated caribou.

It was a cold day in January (snow in the background), but chickens were out. I believe they're all Wyandottes, of several varieties. I think: That's a silver-laced in front and a blue-laced red third. The others?
